viewing divx5 files?

What's the best way to view divx5 files. I want to view such files on the
following web site: http://www.mpa-garching.mpg.de/galform/virgo/millennium/
which is "The Millennium Simulation Project", astronomy animations

I did google the file type and noticed several possibilities but here I'm
looking for recommendations because I hesitate to download software.

VLC Media Player does well, usually.
