A friend threw out a 42" lcd Samsung.Claimed there were pixels missing
on the screen.
I turned it on and sure enough, there were some vertical lines....not
full top to bottom--. of what looked like missing pixels. In some
instances they looked like they corresponded with the edge of some of
the menu boxes. I thought of burn-in on the CRT's.
I took the set home and set it up and amazingly I can't see the
problem at home. It used to show up on the lighter scenes. Could
the jostling in the car have had any effect? Any ideas? The pixels
have been found
thanks,
mm

I can believe it...

I have an old LCD monitor that has a large grey patch in the lower left
regions, thanks to careless handling by someone who shall remain
nameless (yeah, it was me).

It sat in the garage for a couple of years, but recently I need to try
something out that required another monitor. The grey path, formerly 3"
or more in diameter, was now about 3/4" wide.

Go figure...

Now it seems that turning it off and on makes the problem go away. It
came back. I also adjusted the menu transparancey which seemed to
help.

I have heard of software for LCD monitors that is supposed to fix
certain kinds of pixel problems by putting certain kinds of pictures up
(if that sounds vague, it's because I don't remember anything useful
about it).

It may be possible to run that kind of program on a TV set by connecting
it to a computer via HDMI.

I can't even think of a good term to search on - maybe "LCD pixel
repair"?

While I was still using the monitor I mentioned, I found I could pretty
much ignore the grey patch, but a clear vertical line, that sounds hard
to not notice...
