No thanks, Gary.

Your 20 dollar savings on Edius 6 is quite the bargain; sale price is
$779 versus normal pricing of $799.

Safe Harbor (where I bought Edius) sells it every day for $699.............

Videoguys really needs to do some ***serious*** market analysis of your
competition.

Since you have chosen to use newsgroups to advertise your 'bargains', I
could not resist making a comment here.

That's right. It is their job to beat or at least match the best that Smarty
can find, or explain why they can't. It's called capitalism. Unfortunately,
it may be a thing of the past once our comrades in Washington get to setting
ALL of the prices.

Exactly. It's easy to find the lowest prices with just a few clicks. I have my
favourite shops where to buy things, and show them a screenprint of the best
offer I found and ask them if they can match it. If the difference remains too
much, I shop somewhere else.

likewise - though i live in a rural location so i'm a little limited,
but all my computer stuff i try and buy locally - ask him to check-out
shopbot, and if he comes in below average,we've got a deal....

That's a fair deal. At least this will keep the local trade running. If you
look for instance at Amazon, they eat everything. It's just not right.

i know - globalisation whatever, when we lose the local store we have no
one else to blame but ourselves.

Absolutely no question that the purchasing decision rests on the
consumer. I do question Gary's practice of posting sales on newsgroups
and other forums, particularly when, as Gary states: "Check out these
great deasl (sic)" boils down to a 2.5% discount on a very inflated
price compared to other dealers.

Videoguys has been around for quite a while so I imagine their pricing
strategy works well for them, and thus, my comment to do some market
research is perhaps inappropriate. On the other hand, I personally react
strongly to factual errors (as witnessed by some of my other posts here)
and do NOT consider Videoguys as offering "great deasl" / great deals,
and this latest sale assertion is yet another example of a factual
error............

Well it's better than what you see in supermarkets, where it says "down from
2.49 to 1.99" where the product used to cost 2.09 or even already was at 1.99.
Selling involves a lot of psychology. Make the consumer belief something so
they will buy. It's only a few who know what the regular price is. The rest
thinks "hey, that's a nice bargain, I better buy 3".

I see no problems in what Gary states here, after all he is using his tactics
as a salesperson as good as he can.

Compared to $799, a discount to $779 may be a 'great deal' to some
people, and those who find it enticing are most welcome to buy it.
Salesmanship certainly is not so much about facts as it is about
perceptions, and Gary's tactics capitalize on such perceptions. I prefer
to base decisions on facts, and am, no doubt, a critic and probably
somewhat out-spoken.

no doubt to that indeed :) But at least your criticism is usually thought

Mike,

With my daughter, I have found that withholding money still works
occasionally, but then again, she is in her mid 30's!!!

For the rest of my family, sad to say, I am utterly clueless.......

Yup, I know the feeling, and then dear Dad looks like a tight-wad,
cheap-skate, bad-guy.... The kids have it all figured out.

Rodney Dangerfield used to say that he 'can't get no respect'. My boss,
when he retired, said that just about the point in his professional
career he finally felt that he had all the answers, nobody ever asked
him any questions..... I am beginning to share these expressions of
dotage....

Price is not always the #1 issue. Support is just as important. From what I hear, Gart provides
great support. I am about to buy a Panasonic HMC-150. I can get it as low as $2700 and free shipping
and no tax but I am going to spend $2950 plus tax here in NY because I trust the seller. I have no
faith in the scammers I was about to buy from for a few hundred cheaper.

I also buy most of my hardware locally for the same reason. For Edius
software, I see no benefit in spending $799 if I can buy it for a
hundred dollars less from another very reputable dealer who has been
around a long time......
